Company Description

The Mission of HearSmart Audiology is to provide comprehensive audiology care to all ages of the population with the goals being to increase access to sound, improve communication and obtain a pathway to education, which leads to a more productive and satisfying life journey.
Megan D. Ford holds a Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University which she obtained in 2009 and a Master's degree in Audiology from the University of Pittsburgh which was earned in 1998. Dr. Ford is currently adjunct faculty at Northeastern University and teaches a course called 'Professional Practice' to audiology doctoral students. She has been a preceptor of students for over 15 years and continues to supervise graduate students from a variety of audiology programs across the country.
After completing a clinical fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston from 1998 to 1999, she continued to work there for several years where she built a solid foundation for a healthy career in audiology. From 2002 to 2006, Dr. Ford was the assistant director of the cochlear implant program at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio where she refined her skills working with the three FDA approved cochlear implant devices. Dr. Ford was recently a staff audiologist and the clinical coordinator of cochlear implants for the Sounds of Life Cochlear Implant Program at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. In addition to specializing in the area of cochlear implants, Dr. Ford has long term experience as a pediatric audiologist and strives to exceed the national goals set forth by EHDI (Early Hearing Detection and Intervention). It is not uncommon for her to fit newborn babies with amplification as young as 6 weeks of age whereas the national goal is no later than 6 months of age. In 2007 she founded and continues to facilitate the Hear My Dreams support group for parents of children with hearing loss. Hear My Dreams is becoming a nationally recognized support system for parents. Families travel from over 50 miles in every direction, including out of state, in order to attend the bimonthly meetings and annual picnic. In addition to organizing professional guest lecturers to attend the meetings in order to provide parents with education, Dr. Ford designed and maintains the website, www.hearmydreams.com, and successfully promotes and markets the support group through professional presentations and other means, all with little to no funding. She published an award winning (2011 APEX Award) cover article in the November/December 2010 issue of Audiology Today titled “Hear My Dream” which describes the work, research and outcomes of professionally facilitating parent support networks. All of her time and resources spent toward Hear My Dreams have been donated through volunteering and pro-bono services as she feels that through this venue, she can give back to the profession of Audiology.

In addition to Hear My Dreams, Dr. Ford has served on the Public Relations Committee of the American Academy of Audiology where she was invited to present an online course regarding promoting the field of Audiology. From 2011-2012, she was invited to serve as local liaison for the DiscovEARy Zone at the AudiologyNow! Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to the service that she has donated to the field of audiology, Dr. Ford also volunteers in her community as a representative of the Congregational Church of Littleton (CCOL) for the Littleton Council of Churches committee where she works closely with members from four other denominations in town. She recently served as the church clerk at CCOL and was a founding member of the Garden at Church Meadows where she helped to establish a 50 x 100 foot garden designated to grow fresh vegetables to be donated to a local food bank. In order to recruit volunteers to help in the garden, Dr. Ford has presented to the Littleton Rotary Club, for which she is now a member, as well as the Council of Churches. This public outreach has allowed her to become a well known figure in town in addition to serving as Chair of the Littleton Common Sewer Feasibility Study Committee where she joined as a Citizen-at-Large. Her passions include spending time with her children and family, gardening, eating locally (like from her back yard) and living healthy. During the spring, summer and fall, you will likely find her outdoors covered in dirt or harvesting vegetables not only from her personal garden, but also at the Garden at Church Meadows. Lastly, Dr. Ford is a current Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, a certified member of the American Speech/Language and Hearing Association and she is licensed in the state of Massachusetts to practice Audiology. Bringing over 17 years of audiology experience to her private practice, she wishes to offer flexible hours, which will benefit the working patient or parent, when one may prefer to be seen outside of normal business hours.
